What's a Canadian doing in North Carolina?

  It’s the little things, eh?
Well, I had a wonderful trip home for a few days (only 5) and got to see a few friends, saw Wicked, got out dancing, celebrated “Early Christmas” (this may become tradition) and got to eat some foods I’d been missing. Like back bacon (Canadian bacon to you Yanks) in a really decent Eggs Benedict at Pickle Barrel. Fish n Chips at the pub (Duke – Yonge & Eglinton) and of course Tim Horton’s donuts :-D

BUT, lo and behold, here today, in Morganton, North Carolina, I found CRUMPETS! At Ingles yet! Ingles is a North Carolina chain of grocery stores, and like most other grocery stores around here, was sorely lacking in “foreign” foods. I could find some Dare cookies (they used to carry the Crocanolie a la Canellies, but not anymore. Canucks will remember that commercial I hope!) but that was about it other than Mexican food. Today for some reason I decided to go there instead of Bi-Lo which is closer. And I found not only the crumpets, but 3 different brands of Tahini paste! 2 years ago I searched and searched this town for Tahini, and now its at Ingles! And crumpets!

This place may have some promise. Maybe.

We are however planning to move up to Hendersonville, which is about an hour and a half from here up the mountain. 15 or so minutes from Asheville, and maybe only half an hour or less to guess….World Market! They carry a whole whack of imported foods…hence the name. I have to make a trip up there before Christmas to get some Lebkuchen and Pfefferneusse cookies. Mmmmmm, my favourites 

I also received my Pub Grub that I ordered. Some bangers, scones, clotted cream and some haggis. Very yummy. I haven’t tried the haggis yet; I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to eat the whole pound of it on my own. James doesn’t want any. Hmph.

I also put in our regular Christmas order for Canadian Favourites . I’ll get my Shreddies, Kraft Dinner, Campbell’s Tomato soup (added to the line up especially for Me!) and James’ favourite Bits and Bites. Of course I also ordered Tetley tea. I’m almost out.

Oooh. The toaster oven just dinged…there’s my hot dog! Yumm! I found organic hot dog buns today too! No high fructose corn syrup!

I have to finish off my roll of film from Early Christmas; I know I got a few good shots of the kids opening presents and stuff. I also got video. I had 3 cameras with me a 35mm, digital, and video. I need to transfer the video to DVD and send everybody copies. I may finish up the tape and send them pictures of the dogs playing er summat.

It’s a beautiful day here today. About 60F/15.5C. The other day was cold tho! It went down to less than 20F/-7C and I nearly froze to death at work! I was shivering, plus I caught a cold from Tracy while I was home, and my head was all stuffed up I was sneezing and my nose was running. No fun at all. I actually came home at lunch and grabbed one of my fleece shawls to use as a blanket I was that cold! They need to have those windows looked at; I don’t think there’s insulation under them! And at the back of the building, they were roasting to death. Ugh!

Well, I think I shall go gorge myself on chocolate and cookies and tea. My nose is still stuffy and I’m kinda tired. I’ll go see what’s on the telly.

Hiya Absent. The Duke is a familiar family haunt. Next time I'm in I'll raise a pint in your honour.

Becky, sounds like you're in epicure heaven this week. Please send pictures. I'll get mine on disc next week. I was supposed to go to cousin Neil's birthday party tonight but was too long at chrissy's babysitting. My fault. I forgot today's the day until after 5. Party started around then. I phoned the club to sing at least. Sounds like they're all having fun. I'm way too pooped to participate. I had to be up early because I had booked Roger's to come in and hook up "HomePhone" any time between 7 and 11. Had the a;arm set just like Monday. He didn't show up until 10:00.
The microwave has finished nuking my leftovers. Nothing to eat at your sister's house but PB&J or grilled cheese. I passed on both. Like I said, hadn't expected to be there this long.

I'll let you know when I finally get to the UPS store. With Gen away I can't leave the office early :(
miss you tons already
