What's a Canadian doing in North Carolina?

Throw it all in the pot...
That's what we do with leftovers, so this is my "left-overs" post. Got lots of stuff tucked away in my head, and people adding to it on a daily basis, so I'm gonna put it all in the pot and cook it and see what we come up with :)

First, Happy Samhain to you and yours! We celebrated last night, after I got home from work. I cooked a roast beast, colchannon (mashed potatoes, with cabbage and oinions), turnips, and sweet potato pie (which I had for breakfast...yummmmm!). James made some pan friend taters for his Pop. We stuffed ourselves, and put a plate and a light out for the ancestors on the front stoop. If that doesn't tip the neighbours off as to why we don't go to church, nuthin' will! ;)

We've thankfully been getting some rain this week. It's rained nearly every day, but sadly it is still not enough to reverse the drought. The river is still not up to "normal" levels. Most of the state is wondering if there will be water stores in the next couple of months, and the governor is considering state wide water rationing.

The sun is shining today, so I'm guessing that's it for the rain again. Which is a shame, George & Bruno looked so cute in their rain coats! LOL!

They were fussing the other night about going out for a walk, and it was raining, so James decided they MUST have rain coats on. He got a couple of his old Domino's delivery jackets and put them on them. He called me upstairs and when I saw George standing there like this, I nearly pee'd my pants laughing!

Every time George put her head down to sniff at the ground, which is often, the hood fell down over her eyes and she'd stumble around trying to get it off. The sleeves were too long on both of them and they'd end up walking on them, and flapping over their feet! The whole time we were out, I spent bent over laughing at them. It was just too funny. James says he's going to alter the jackets so they'll fit better. Trim the sleeves and take in the hood for George. Bruno's head is big enough that the hood on his didn't bother him at all.

You'd think that in a town that has a rather large immigrant population such as Morganton, (mostly from Latin America, but quite a few from other parts of the world as well) the one and only Post Office would be better stocked for Global Priority mail packages! I spent the better part of my lunch hour the other day trying to find something to send my nephew AJ's birthday present in because there was NO global priority boxes left! NONE! Not anywhere in the entire post office >:-| They didn't even have any APO packages left either. And there's a fairly large population of people here who send care packages to soldiers overseas. I'm tellin' ya...sheesh!

Not only does the local post office suck, but recently a co-worker had to call 911 AND SHE WAS PUT ON HOLD!!!! For 10 minutes! When they finally came back to her, she said "nevermind, I'm dead now!" and hung up! Luckily for her, the threat had left (she works part time at a local gas station, and there was some kids hanging around making people nervous), but jeezus, she could have been shot and bled to death while she was on hold!

Another chalk mark in the column for "reasons to move away from here". Far, far away...

I do love the fall, it is my favourite time of year. Finally the summer heat and humidity is gone, the leaves are starting to change colour, the air is fresher, and hopefully soon I'll be able to find parsnips at the grocery store (they're rare around here apparently). Maybe today since it is not raining we can take the dogs for a good long walk on the Greenway. Maybe have a picnic in the park. That would be fun. :)

Our wedding anniversary is on Tuesday next week. 6 years. Can you believe it? I can't. Feels like forever, and not quite that long all at the same time.

I'm trying to convince James to take me out to dinner at Churchill's Pub on Tuesday. I don't know why he has such an aversion to the place, but one of these days I'll get him in there!

And I think last but not least, a friend of mine from back home posted this YouTube on my Facebook FunWall, and I'd like to share it with all my other friends who are not on Facebook.

I've been big on trying to help out the environment for quite a few years, and the argument that this guy uses is similar to one I've used previously to folks whove said "nope, its not us, its normal!" I also use the financial angle, the workshop I led at PPD was "How to save money by being and environmentalist".

Check out this guy's presentation, he's got some valid points.
(hopefully I post this correctly...I've never done a YouTube link before)
